CLUB INDEX
A player’s Handicap Index should represent their demonstrated ability and, where appropriate, be responsive to scores that are inconsistent with their demonstrated ability. The goal of the SHMGC Club Index is a process of calculating a Handicap Index and incorporates the safeguards needed to help ensure that a player’s Playing Index remains reflective of their ability and that equity is retained for all golfers. It includes mechanisms that:
Remember previously demonstrated ability within a defined period of time.
Cap the upward movement of a player’s Handicap Index within a defined period of time.
Apply additional adjustments to a player’s Handicap Index when an exceptional score is submitted.
In all SHMGC Tournaments, the SHMGC will use the lower of the players GHIN Handicap Index* and the SHMGC Calculated Club Index. The Club Index is calculated using only SHMGC Stroke Play tournament scores. Match Play, Skins and Team Play scores will not be used in the calculation. Members of the club who do not have enough SHMGC competition scores to establish a Club Index, shall play to 75% of their current GHIN index or 0 if a GHIN Index has not been established. With exception to plus index players, 0 will be the lowest index while in the process of establishing a Club Index. The Club Index shall be calculated with no more than the 10 most recent SHMGC tournament scores over the preceding 12 month period.
* The Low Handicap Index (LI) or Club Index, whichever is lower, shall be used for the TOC, the President's Cup and the Club Championship tournaments.
The Club Index is calculated from the lowest Score Differentials in the scoring record. If a scoring record contains fewer than 10 Score Differentials, the table below is used to determine the number of Score Differentials to be included in the calculation. The result of the calculation is rounded to the nearest tenth.
